Around 300 primary school pupils gathered for a successful multi-skills festival in Cockermouth last week.

Wright Sport Services, with the support of Cockermouth School Year 10 work placement students, Eaglesfield Paddle Primary Academy sport leaders and volunteer coaches Sophie Smyth and Olivia Hughes delivered a festival for the Key Stage 1 local primary school children.

On a glorious summer's day at Cockermouth RUFC, schools provided teams of between 10-15 children who rotated around eight activity stations competing against two teams from other schools.

For every jump, run, throw, catch and strike they managed, points were scored and entered into their total score.

This ensured out of the 24 teams competing the top three teams could be identified.

Winning gold were Bridekirk Dovenby Primary School's team one with 602 points. They were followed in silver by St Bridget's Primary School, Cockermouth's team one with 580 points.

And in bronze place was Broughton Primary School's team one with 558 points.

Organiser, Chris Wright, said: "The objective of the event is to ensure Key Stage 1 children get the opportunity to attend a large scale competition in a fun and enjoyable environment.

"And reinforce the key skills children of this age need to be consolidating for a strong foundation to future sporting success.

"For any children who enjoyed this event their are future opportunities to work on these key physical skills whilst making lots of new friends at Chance Camp over the summer holidays."
