Egremont Rangers forward Kieran Glenn wrote himself into the record books in a War of the Roses clash.

Glenn chose to play for Lancashire in the inaugural National Conference League clash between the two Roses protagonists – and scored a try in the 38-12 victory for Yorkshire.

The second-row forward must be one of the very few Cumbrians, if not the first, to have scored for Lancashire in a match against Yorkshire.

It was a comfortable win for the White Rose county as they had the game virtually wrapped up at half-time with a 20-0 lead.

Ex-Whitehaven prop Steven Fox had originally been selected but was unable to travel but Joe Bold, also from Egremont, accompanied Glenn to Castleford for the first ever NCL War of the Roses.

Bold, in fact, had played for the A team on the night before, picking up man-of-the-match in a 32-22 win over Lowca in the final of the Iggesund Shield at Hensingham.

Tomorrow Glenn, and maybe Bold, will be in action against two of the players who represented Yorkshire last weekend as the west Cumbrians travel to last year’s league winners Siddal in the Premier Division of the NCL.

Winger Gareth Blackburn and centre Freddie Walker were in the starting line-up for the White Rose county.

Second-in-the-table Egremont are four points better off than their hosts but they still trail runaway leaders Hunslet Club Parkside by eight points.

Parkside are actually in west Cumbria tomorrow when they play at Kells, who are too near the relegation zone for comfort.

Fourth-bottom, they are two points clear of Rochdale Mayfield and Wigan St. Patrick’s with Myton Warriors a point further back at the bottom.

Overcoming the 100 per cent leaders will be tough but Peter Smith’s men will be looking to produce the day’s shock and ease their concerns.

Wath Brow Hornets face a long trek to Humberside to take on a West Hull side who have been showing improved form of late. Their hosts are only two points behind them with a game in hand.

There’s a full programme of matches in the Iggesund Cumberland ARL Premier Division with three interesting contests.

There’s no doubt about the top fixture – that’s the third meeting of the season between Hensingham (at home tomorrow) and Distington.

It’s one win apiece and, on each occasion, there were only two points between the two sides.

Hensingham were turned-over, in another two point game, when they lost the Iggesund Trophy final to Ellenborough Rangers last week.

Ellenborough should be buoyant after that success, ready to face a Kells A side who scored an excellent 44-30 win at Seaton.

Glasson Rangers recently beat Kells A to register their first win of the season so their clash at home to Seaton Rangers is expected to be a tight affair.

There’s only one game in Division One with third-placed Aspatria Hornets entertaining Lowca who are a place and two points behind them.
