Cumbrian Super League star James Donaldson is due to make his comeback from a lengthy injury this weekend.

The Hull KR forward suffered a third anterior cruciate ligament injury back on Good Friday last year which ended his season.

The former Wath Brow Hornets prop had been in top form as he looked to help his side bounce back up to Super League at the first attempt - which they did.

But he had to watch from the sidelines as the Robins, led by another West Cumbrian in Shaun Lunt, achieved promotion.

Now, this Sunday, he looks set to feature for York City Knights on dual registration, playing his first game in over 10 months as they take on Oldham.

KR boss Tim Sheens said he is sending both Donaldson and George Lawler, also returning from injury, to the Knights to get some field time.

“Donno or George haven’t played a game this year and George particularly is just getting out on the field,” Sheens told the Hull Daily Mail.

“We’re giving them limited time at York to introduce them back into football and hopefully within the next two or three weeks they bring themselves into calculation - and our squad will grow in strength with two players of their quality available to us."
