Cockermouth-born Super League star Shaun Lunt will get better as the season continues, says his Hull KR boss Tim Sheens.

The Robins skipper has returned to action following close-season shoulder surgery but has played in all of Hull KR’s four games so far this term.

But Sheens said that fans may not see the best of 30-year-old Lunt until next month.

He added that Lunt has had to get back up-to-speed as he has brought him on from the bench in the clashes while he gets back to full strength.

So far Rovers have only one win, alongside three defeats, to show for their efforts, as they languish near the foot of the table.

“We are looking at [starting Lunt] but, at the moment, he’s still coming off a shoulder injury,” Sheens told the Hull Daily Mail.

“He hasn’t had a lot of game-time, hardly any friendly preparation, so it is what it is.

“He’s slowly but surely getting there with the minutes and we’ll address that soon.

“At the moment, he’s still an interchange and that doesn’t change for another four or five games, maybe, for him to recover.

“The dry weather to come too suits him more, I believe.

“Our one win has been with Lunty coming off the bench, so we’ll maybe keep that going for the time being before he fully recovers from that shoulder.”

So far this year, new signing Tommy Lee has started at hooker, with Sheens wanting to give Lunt as much time as he needs to fully recover.
