Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson says he won't shy away from any criticism over results.

With Reds languishing near the bottom of the Evo Stik Northern Premier League table, Hewson admitted results had not been good enough.

But he says, along with joint manager Lee Andrews, they are determined to put things right and kick-start Reds season, following on from their FA Trophy win over Scarborough, which has led to them earning a second round qualifying tie away at Newcastle Town in yesterday's draw.

"I've said it before, criticism is part and parcel of the game, we expect it," said Hewson. "Results haven't been good enough and we're the ones who lead the team out every single week so we take full responsibility for that and I'm not going to shy away from it.

"I've never shied away from anything football wise when I was a player and I'm certainly not going to shy away from anything as a manger.

"You have to be thick skinned, criticism always comes, we're never going to keep everyone happy.

"As long as everyone knows we will always do everything that we can, 110 per cent every week, to make things right, put things right, to try and instill positivity in the players.

"We want to give them the confidence and belief that they can go out and win every single game because, hand on heart, I truly believe that they can and they proved that against Scarborough.

"It doesn't matter who the opposition is, we go in every week believing we can win it.

"That's myself and Lee's job to put that confidence and belief into the players and give them a license to go and express themselves every week and produce more performances like that."

The 1-0 win in the FA Trophy over Northern Premier League leaders Scarborough was a huge boost for Reds' confidence as they get ready for a tough trip to Mickleover Sports on Saturday.

But Hewson is not getting carried away and says they still have a lot of work to do.

"You don't get carried away with anything as football has a horrible way of bringing you back down to earth very quickly," added Hewson.

"We will prepare right, as there are a lot of hurting bodies in the dressing room, tired, with knocks and niggles.

"So we will regroup, take stock, have a good training session and prepare well for a tough trip away on Saturday."
