Two students of Workington’s Just Grind MMA and Fitness Centre brought home a national medal haul last weekend.

Brothers Elliot and Zinedine Hodgson both claimed gold at the EKA National Championships, with a further two medals apiece in their final haul.

The duo were both crowned national kata pairs champions on Sunday, with Zinedine also bagging gold in fighting, as well as a silver in kata.

Officials instructed Elliot to move up an age category on the day of the competition. In spite of this, he walked away with his gold in the national pairs, bronze in kata and fourth place in fighting.

Both of the young black belts were schooled by karate instructor, Sensei Mark Hodgson. And they are also due to have a grading soon to achieve their 2nd Dan black belt.

The EKA victories have awarded Elliot and Zinedine further additions to their already packed trophy cases.

In June they returned from a Scottish competition with another three medals each. Zinedine clinched three golds in the under-17 categories and Elliot took a gold, silver and bronze.
