Pacy youngster Tyllar Mellor is set to return to Workington Town on a permanent deal for next season.

Town were quick to offer a deal to Mellor, after he impressed when spending the back end of the year on loan at Derwent Park from Huddersfield Giants.

And Mellor said it was an easy decision for him to return to Workington and hopes he can help the side move forward in 2019.

“I was delighted to sign for Town because I’ve enjoyed my experience at the back end of last season on my loan from Huddersfield Giants,” said the versatile Mellor.

“Everyone, from the directors of the club to the fans, have been very supportive and welcoming which made it easy to fit in.

“The club has a great group of players that work hard for each other to the final whistle every week and a great coach in Leon Pryce which made it an obvious choice for me.

“I’m excited for this coming season and hope we can do something special for everyone associated with the club.”

And officials at Workington are delighted to welcome Mellor, who has played on the wing and at full-back, to the club.

Town’s director of rugby, Les Ashe, believes he will be a quality addition to the side, as they begin to put together their squad for another tilt at promotion from League One.

“Tyllar is a fantastic signing,” said Ashe. “After joining us from Huddersfield Giants on loan in August he has been an ever present and has been used at full-back and on the wing.

“He is very strong in defence, very fast and a great returner of the ball, as well as a superb finisher.

“He trains hard, is very fit and fantastic to have at the club. He fit in with the established lads really quickly and quickly delivered on the pitch in some very big games.

“We’d like to welcome Tyllar and his family to the club, he’s a quality addition and one that will add further pace and versatility to what is becoming a great squad for 2019.”
