Workington Reds will go into today’s FA Trophy clash at Newcastle Town without two regular first-teamers.

Jason Walker and Matty Douglas have both been ruled out of the cup game in the North East through injury.

Walker suffered a head injury in Reds’ last game at Mickleover, resulting in a mild concussion and also need staples in a head wound, while Douglas is struggling with a groin injury.

Joint manager Dave Hewson said he would have to reshuffle his side but was positive with Sam Smith and Josh Calvert both returning to action, along with Kieran Maguire, who is also available again.

“Jason’s injury was worse than we anticipated and he has needed two staples to a cut to his head, as well as suffering from concussion,” explained Hewson.

“As a precaution he will miss out today but he should be okay for the following Saturday. He will be a big miss though.

“Matty is struggling with a groin injury and unfortunately he could be out for several weeks.

“We do have Kieran Maguire to come back in and Josh and Sam are back in contention.

“They are both ready for game time now and with Dan Wordsworth having a one match suspension coming up for the league, it will be good to get them back in.”

Wordsworth is available today but will face a one-game suspension next weekend due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
