Bransty Rangers continued their run of form by defeating Premier Division Wigton Harriers by a lone goal in the Benevolent Cup.

Wigton had a couple of chances in the first half from shots outside of the box which failed to trouble Bransty keeper Jamie Brady.

Adam Smith put Bransty ahead half way into the first half cutting in from the left to finish with a strike into the top corner.

The second period saw Wigton take the initiative and had Bransty defending resolutely for much of the half but they remained solid at the back to ensure their safe passage into the semi-final.

County league newcomers Workington Reds Juniors, also progressed in the competition travelling to Gosforth and overcoming the Premier Division side 4-2.

Steffan Scott with a brace and one apiece from Tony Berwick and Jamie Bramley were on the scoresheet for the Reds. Reece Fretwell and an own goal made up the Gosforth’s compliment.

In the Premier Division, Cleator Moor Reserves entertained Carlisle City Development in a very entertaining game. Celtic team manager, Craig Scott got City off to a flier when he beat his own keeper Craig Devine, with a back pass not realising he was off his line.

He addressed the balance shortly after, heading home a corner to level the scores at half time.

City were the dominant team in the second period with Celtic dangerous on the counter but neither team were able to add to their tally taking a point each from the fixture.

Silloth took advantage of Workington Reds Juniors who were on Cup duty to leapfrog them to top the Division One table. Silloth overran Whitehaven Miners scoring 10 goals with just one in reply from Dylan Elsworth.

The Silloth goals came courtesy of four from Andy Hinde, a brace from Kieran Little, one each from Spencer Irving, Nick Watt, Graeme Dixon and Gareth Lewis. Andy Hardman was pulling the strings in midfield for Silloth.

The Borough v UniSun division one fixture was a victim of the weather, as was the Benevolent Cup tie between Cockermouth and Aspatria while Newlaithes were unable to raise a team for their game against Pirelli resulting in a walkover for the latter.
