Scot Dan Carmichael has returned to Workington Reds looking to bolster up their midfield for their relegation dogfight.

Carmichael signed a deal to come back to Borough Park after having spells at Gretna 2008, Queen of the South, Hibernian and Cumnock Juniors.

His availability is subject to international clearance but manager Lee Andrews is hopeful it will come through in time for him to travel to Grantham on Saturday.

“Dan was with Reds as a junior and played a few games for the reserves before he left to spend time at Gretna,” said Andrews.

“He then went to Queen of the South and did really well there, before heading to Hibernian but he picked up a couple of injuries and he slid back down a little.

“But we are happy he has now come back to us.”

Andrews is keen to see what the 28-year-old can add to the Reds squad, saying he can be used up front or out wide, depending on the game.

He added: “In some ways he has some of the attributes of the other new signings, he can be a number 10 up front or play out wide.

“He has trained with us quite a few times over the last couple of weeks and he is sharp and positive in everything he does.

“He gets the team playing forward and that’s what we are hoping he will do.

“He can get you turned around and going forward but he can also play wide out, depending on the options we have on the day.”
