Lee Andrews has been praised for his dedication to the Workington Reds cause this season.

Club chairman John Mackay said the Reds boss has been a mainstay in their fight to save the side’s Northern Premier League status.

After losing two managers and having a host of new titles thrust at him, Andrews has continued to back his team and their ability to claw their way out of danger.

And with three consecutive wins now under their belts, they are on their way to doing just that and Mackay says much of the credit has to go to Andrews.

“He has been the lynchpin behind it all,” said Mackay.

“Many others could have walked away but he has stayed. He is a really genuine lad and I have nothing but respect for him.

“Lee has had so many job titles in this last couple of months but he has just got on with it all.

“And now Steven Rudd has come in as his assistant as well and he has proved to be another valuable asset.”

Mackay said getting three wins under their belt has been a huge boost to the side, ahead of Saturday’s visit of Basford United to Borough Park.

“It makes such a difference to get three wins. We know the tunnel is still there but we can start to see a light at the other end,” added Mackay.

“We still need wins but we are now on the shirt-tails of the other teams. We are four points off safety but have three games in hand on the teams above us.

“If we can have a reasonable run then I think we can now finish nearer to mid-table than the bottom but there is still a job there to be done.

“But as I have always said, I have the confidence that we can get out of this and now even more so.”

Reds have picked up three wins out of the last four they recently targeted, with the final game being postponed.
