Kerry Harrison is set to continue the legacy of her late father – as she joins the board of Workington Town this week.

Wilf Harrison, a former chairman of the club and also a major shareholder, died in May 2014, and now his daughter has become the newest director of Workington Town.

And Kerry believes her father would be very proud that she is following in his footsteps.

“I’m delighted to be carrying on my dad’s legacy at Town,” she said.

“He loved the club and I’m sure he would be happy to see me having an active involvement as we try to fulfil the club’s true potential.”

Kerry will work as the point of contact between the club shareholders and the board and will have specific responsibility for health and safety at the club.

She added: “At such an important time in the club’s history and with so many exciting things going on including the potential for the new stadium, I’m honoured and excited to have joined the board.

“I think, like most people who look on from the outside, I underestimated the amount of time and effort that goes into running the club.

“I’m happy to be able to share that load with the other directors and volunteers at the club.”

Town chairman Les Smallwood said it was a pleasure to have Kerry on board and said she brings a renewed sense of energy to the role.

He said: “Wilf is a Town great and steered the club with enthusiasm and massive energy.

“Kerry is bringing that same energy and forthrightness in her new role.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome her to the board of directors and she’s already driving some projects.

“These are exciting times at Town and we’re immensely pleased that Kerry has joined us on the journey.”

Town begin their Coral Challenge Cup journey on Sunday with a third-round tie against National Conference League side Siddal who will make the journey to Derwent Park, ko 3pm.

Siddal, who lost out to Wath Brow in last weekend’s season-opening league game, face Cumbrian opposition for the second time in two weeks.

And they have been trying to prepare with an opposed training session this week with Championship outfit Halifax.
