Distington are trailing League 1 outfit Keighley Cougars by just two points at half time in their Coral Challenge Cup third round tie.

It has been a real battle of wills between the West Cumbrian amateurs and their professional hosts with Distington leading 2-0 for nearly half an hour of the contest.

Clayton Sutton slotted over an early penalty and the Iggesund Cumberland League side held on to that with both hands.

They were nearly over for two tries as well with Gavin Martin and Sutton just missing out close to the line.

But then an altercation involving the two sides saw them both down to 12 men with Phil Lister the Distington player sent to cool his heels in the sin bin.

And with three minutes remaining Keighley finally got over the line courtesy of Jack Coventry and it was converted for the home side to take the lead.

But then in the final minute Sutton again took advantage of a penalty to slot the ball between the uprights to bring Distington to within two points at 6-4 at the break.
