FORMER England boss Kevin Keegan is set to be the main attraction at a Cumbrian sporting event this month.

On April 18, the legendary attacker, who managed the Three Lions from 1999 until 2000, will be at Whitehaven’s Solway Hall for an evening organised by Ian Milburn, of IM Events. The 68-year-old will be joined by comedian Lester Crabtree.

Milburn said: “I had him in Carlisle last year, I think there were about 350 at the Shepherd’s Inn and he was fantastic. He does a bit of a presentation on his career, who he has met and who has had an influence on him. He is just so accommodating. He was the last one to leave and pretty much the first one there, he is one of the best speakers that I’ve had.”

Standard tickets are £30, “Gold” tickets are £45 which includes the chance to have a picture with Keegan, and VIP tickets - including a Champagne reception - are £100 with a limited number still available.

“We have sold a fair few tickets already but it would be nice to fill the place. He deserves that with the way he is,” Milburn said.

Since appearing in Carlisle last March, Keegan has released an autobiography “My Life in Football” which includes some explosive revelations about his time as Newcastle manager under owner Mike Ashley.

Milburn added: “We’ll have a little bit more time this time than we did in Carlisle, so we will try to do a Q & A with him. Since we had him last year, he has released a book.

“So, I think he will talk more about his relationship with Mike Ashley and his spells at Newcastle this time around. He probably didn’t want to talk about that last time, because he was keeping that for the book. It’s quite interesting some of the stuff that he has got to say.”
