Workington Town have called for fans to get behind the team at Keighley tomorrow as captain Ollie Wilkes takes charge.

Town, who parted company with head coach Leon Pryce on Tuesday night, are set to travel to face the Cougars tomorrow (3pm kick-off) looking to get back to winning ways.

Experienced skipper Ollie Wilkes and the current coaching staff will be in charge for the clash while the club has already received enquiries and CVs regarding the vacant coaching position at Derwent Park after Pryce left his role in midweek.

And the club has issued a rallying cry calling for supporters to back the team as they aim to put points on the board and close the gap to Hunslet and local rivals Whitehaven, who are both sat on 10 points at the top of the table.

“The club would like to thank our supporters for their patience and support at this time,” they said.

“The board’s focus as always is to continue the good progress we’ve made against our strategic plan.

“As you can imagine at a sensitive time like this, the club wants to ensure it is respectful to all parties involved.

“Therefore, further communications will be made at the appropriate time.

“Ollie Wilkes, the coaching staff, and the team are all fully focused on this weekend’s game against Keighley.

“We urge the fans to get behind the team on Sunday as we look to pick up the win and finish the rest of the season strongly.”

While Town go into the fixture looking to halt a run of three losses in a row in all competitions, the Cougars defeated Doncaster on Good Friday and beat West Wales Raiders on the road 56-12 before that.

They are bottom of the league after starting the season with a points deduction.

Stand-in Town coach Wilkes has named a largely similar squad to the one which lost out 33-18 to Haven at Derwent Park on Good Friday for the trip to west Yorkshire, with Sam Hewitt and Tyler Lancaster coming in and Tyllar Mellor missing out after suffering a hamstring injury.

The full 19-man squad is Caine Barnes, Tom Curwen, Andrew Dawson, Jamie Doran, Izaac Farrell, Carl Forber, Sam Hewitt, Sam Hopkins, Tyler Lancaster, Gordon Maudling, Fuifui Moimoi, Sean Penkywicz, Scott Rooke, Stevie Scholey, Perry Singleton, Danny Tickle, Jonathan Walsh, Ollie Wilkes, James Worthington.

Meanwhile, Keighley prop Jimmy Beckett is set to make his return for the Cougars tomorrow after re-joining the club on loan for the rest of the season from Featherstone Rovers.
