Carlisle United will learn their 2019/20 League Cup first round opponents this week - when the draw is held in a supermarket.

The EFL have chosen a branch of Morrisons to host the Carabao Cup draw this Thursday night.

The draw will take place in the Colindale store, which is a short distance from Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool legend John Barnes and Arsenal favourite Ray Parlour will carry out the draw.

Carlisle will be one of 70 teams in the draw, which will see teams placed into northern and southern sections.

The League will be hoping to avoid the pitfalls which saw some previous seasons' cup draws engulfed by farce.

They included Charlton appearing twice in the 2017/18 first round draw held in Bangkok.

A third round draw in Beijing which was unavailable to watch by UK-based supporters also attracted criticism - as did a two-hour delay to the quarter-final draw.

In a statement the EFL today said the Carabao Cup was "often unique and unpredictable...as teams discover their fate in draws held worldwide".

The League said this Thuesday's draw, from 7pm, will be live on the Carabao Cup's Facebook pace, with live text updates on the EFL's Twitter page and their website.

Carlisle were knocked out of the cup at the first round last season after a 5-1 home defeat to Blackburn.

The draw will follow Thursday morning's announcement of the league fixtures for the 2019/20 campaign.

Carlisle's League Two fixtures will be available from 9am.
