Workington Reds can expect a different test to their first two pre-season friendlies when they travel to face National League side Barrow AFC today, according to boss Danny Grainger.

Reds have beaten Whitehaven AFC and Carlisle City so far during their preparations for the new season but Grainger expects today’s trip to Holker Street (3pm kick-off) to be tougher.

Speaking to Reds’ website, he said: “We’ve done well in both games but I think today will be a completely different game, to be honest.

“They’ll obviously want a reaction after the Tuesday night.

“I know Ian [Evatt, the Bluebirds’ manager] well and know what he’ll be like.”

Brad Hubbold has agreed to sign for Reds after impressing in pre-season.

He featured for a Furness Select team against Barrow on Tuesday and scored the winning goal from a free kick.

Meanwhile, Reds have been drawn away to the winners of the Newcastle Benfield v Knaresborough Town tie in the FA Cup – the two sides they knocked out of last season’s competition.

They will play the victor on August 24 in the preliminary round with £2,890 on the line for the victors and £960 for the losers.

The club’s FA Trophy campaign will begin in the preliminary round at Droylsden on October 12.

Prize money is split with £2,250 for the winners and £750 for the losers.
