“If I had 17 Tyllar Mellors we’d certainly win more games than we’d lose,” claimed Workington Town boss Chris Thorman after the full-back’s starring role in Sunday’s win.

Mellor was hugely influential as Town defeated play-off rivals London Skolars at Borough Park 32-22 in a hard-fought contest.

And Thorman was delighted with the effort from the former Huddersfield youngster, saying he is the perfect tonic to help the team through their current rough patch.

“He had one slight blip when he threw the ball in to touch but, apart from that, I thought he was fantastic,” said Thorman.

“He just epitomises what this group needs at the minute. He does the tough stuff.

“And he’s a really good young man, really easy to coach. If we had 17 Tyllar Mellors we’d certainly win more games than we’d lose.”

Town had to take on the Skolars with just two substitutes due to the current injury crisis at the club.

And with another tough clash coming on Sunday, at home to Keighley Cougars, Thorman is hoping to have more bodies at his disposal.

“We will have to wait for an assessment from our medical team and maybe see if we can get a couple more on dual registration from Huddersfield, which would be nice,” he added.

“We could possibly do with a couple of forwards to rotate some of our more ageing middles, lets call them.

“And I just want us to train more consistently but I was so proud of all their efforts on Sunday.”
