Declan O'Donnell will be available for selection for Workington Town's crunch clash against Keighley Cougars tomorrow (3pm kickoff).

O'Donnell was shown a red card for a punch during last Sunday's 32-22 home win against London Skolars, not long after he had scored a try.

But the hooker was handed a zero-match penalty notice by the Rugby Football League's match review panel for the incident, meaning he can be part of the squad for tomorrow's game.

Town head coach Chris Thorman was delighted to hear that he would be available and felt it was the right decision after what he believed was "mismanagement" of the feisty clash by the referee.

He said: "There wasn't much in that at all.

"He threw a punch but the sending off was sufficient.

"I'm pleased we have him available for selection because he's been a good player for us Dec.

"The referee could have clamped down on it a little bit sooner rather than letting it escalate into a couple of brawls."

Thorman is hopeful of having a 19-man squad available tomorrow, with a number of players set to be given until as late as possible to prove their fitness.

Caine Barnes, Karl Olstrom and Sean Penkywicz are all in contention.

"I think I've only had a selection dilemma once before in my short time here so far so that's a good thing to have one this weekend," he said.

"Hopefully we can get a bit more of an 80-minute performance because I didn't think we quite did that against London, although we were the better team."

Keighley are second-bottom of the League 1 table but started the season with a 12-point deduction and could have been battling for the play-off places for Workington without that.

Thorman said: "They're very competitive and have a lot of experience in the squad.

"We need to keep focusing on what we've been doing well but there are a couple of threats we need to be aware of."

Town will be back at Derwent Park tomorrow for their first home league game there since they faced Hunslet in May and, although he does not expect it to have a major impact on the game, Thorman is looking forward to the return.

He added: "A patch of a grass is a patch of grass at the end of the day but it will be nice to get back to Derwent Park.

"I think I've coached more games at Borough Park than I have there.

"Hopefully the fans will turn out in their numbers and support us because we need as much of that as we can get at the moment."
