A popular restaurant and takeaway is backing Workington Reds as they look to cook up a winning formula this season.

Caspian Flame Grill has supported Workington Reds for the last five years, with this year’s backing coming in the form of a new sponsored training kit for the staff and players to wear.

Restaurant owner Sohrab Padidar-Nazar and Reds manager Danny Grainger showed off the kit this week and the sponsor said he was excited to see where the new boss could take the team.

He said: “I’ve lived in Workington since 1979 and I class myself as a Workingtonian.

“It’s nice to support the team because the town and all the people like to see them succeed.

“I know they didn’t have a great season last year so we’re putting a bit more in to help them.

“We are always here for them and Reds have our support.

“Danny seems to be doing a good job so far and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”

Grainger added: “Obviously this is what we need, having people and businesses in Workington that get behind us.

“We couldn’t be more thankful to Sohrab and the guys at Caspian for helping us out with the kit this season.

“Any little things we can do to improve the professionalism around the club can hopefully add up to push us to the next level.

“Even though we are a semi-professional club, we are still trying to do things in as professional a manner as we can.”

Reds fans have also been backing the club by turning out in numbers to help get Borough Park ready for the start of the new campaign.

A group of 33 supporters headed to the ground on Saturday to help the club start tackling the list of jobs needed to get the ground ready for the start of the new season.

Willing volunteers helped out with cutting the grass, weeding, painting, picking litter, electrical work, pitch maintenance and general tidying up.

Chairman John Mackay said: “It was an excellent turnout and some lovely jobs were done.

“We’re hoping to possibly have another one this weekend.

“The club belongs to the fans, it doesn’t belong to the board of directors, so it’s nice to see them take ownership of the ground and rally around to help us get ready for the new season.”

Work to prepare Reds’ home was due to begin earlier this summer but was delayed due to the uncertainty over whether the team would move to Derwent Park and the need for Workington Town to use Borough Park for three home fixtures.
