The Workington and District Sunday League will start the 2019/20 season with 17 clubs.

That is the same number who kicked off a year ago but they had only 16 competing when the season ended.

Waverley have merged with Senhouse Street Club to form one team while the two newcomers to the league are The Junction and Glasson Gardeners.

The two merged teams will play as Senhouse Street Club in the Premier Division.

Red House have changed their name to Junction Athletic, also in the Premier Division.

Glasson Gardeners, entering for the first time, will join the First Division which will have nine of the 17 competing clubs.

There was almost an 18th club but at the last minute a team from Silloth decided not to enter at this point in time.

The Sunday League match programme will start on September 1 and will take a three-week break over Christmas and the New Year, expecting to complete fixtures by the end of May.

The League will have four cup competitions – the two Divisional Cups for each League; the Presidents Cup and the League Cup.

After several years of referees’ fees staying the same, the coming season will see them raised to £35 with no objections.

Ron Caffrey – whose first fee as a referee was 50p – has agreed to stay on as secretary/treasurer.

He had indicated that he was standing down but such has been the volume of requests for him to stay on he has agreed to continue.

Luke Henderson is the only new addition to the league’s management committee.

Pack Horse are the reigning premier division champions and will look to retain their title.

The competing teams are – Premier Division: Deer Orchard, Northside, Junction Athletic, Pack Horse, Salterbeck, Senhouse Street Club, Seaton Royal Oak, Sun Inn.

Division One: Dearham, Glasson Gardeners, Highfield, The Junction, Maryport Labour Club, Maryport United, Sun Inn Athletic, Soul Suite, Workington Juniors.
