Graham Potter is relishing a home league debut as Albion boss – with the backing of the Amex crowd.

And he could break an 18-year-old jinx.

The Seagulls’ head coach takes charge at home for the first time in the league as West Ham visit today.

A win would make him the first boss to enjoy such success in his first home league fixture since Peter Taylor in 2001 (pictured).

But he knows his side will need great backing against a Hammers outfit smarting from a first-day 5-0 mauling by Manchester City.

Potter said: “It’s the first game at the Amex so we are looking forward to it.

“I’ve had a bit of taste of it. It was a pre-season friendly but there were 16,000 and some atmosphere, I thought, for that type of game.

“I am looking forward to a full house and a Premier League game because we will need the support, that’s for sure.”

Albion’s last ten bosses, excluding caretakers, have mustered three draws between them in their home league debuts.

Potter and his team got off to a flyer at Watford but he warned: “We can’t turn up versus West Ham and say, ‘Look, we played well last week, give us a goal start’ or something.

“You have to start again, that’s just how it is.”
