Workington Town have moved to expand the capability of their board by adding a new face as a director.

Tom McKeating, who works in the nuclear industry with a background in commercial and strategy development, has joined the club’s board.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to the board at Town.

“I’ve been involved with the club for a number of years in different ways, most recently in leading the refresh of the club’s long-term strategy.

“One of my specific roles will be to make sure that we’re delivering against that, and really capturing the many opportunities we’ve got to develop the club.

“It’s a great time to be involved with Workington Town.

“We’re focusing on getting the right people involved both on and off the pitch.

“We’ve recruited a talented head coach and we’re all pulling in the same direction.

“The club is such an important part of the West Cumbrian community.

“I want to be a part of the positive impact that rugby league brings to the area.”

Chairman Les Smallwood added: “It’s great to get someone like Tom on board.

“He’s got the experience to play a key role for us and complements the board perfectly.

“We have enthusiastic and energetic people running the club with its best interests at heart and Tom’s already having a big impact.”

Town are set to aim for promotion from League 1 to the Championship again next season, with head coach Chris Thorman already starting to assemble his squad after signing a new three-year deal to stay at the club.
