Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with Farsley Celtic will be a game too soon for Brad Carroll said Workington Reds boss Danny Grainger.

Carroll has been sidelined with a thigh strain and Grainger is keen to ensure their is no recurrence of the problem for his one of his key midfielders.

And he admitted they will be erring on the side of caution.

“No, it’ll be too early for Brad next weekend probably,” said Grainger. “It’s one of those ones where we need to be careful; we don’t want to rush him back and have another recurrence.

“Unfortunately, having two recurrences, it becomes very much err on the side of caution.

“We’re disappointed we’ve not been able to get him involved a little bit earlier but he’ll be someone that’ll come back into the squad in the next few weeks and really give us a boost and a kick forward.”

Grainger, who has just committed to a new deal to keep him at Borough Park, admitted the club had also lost out on a potential signing as well.

He added: “That one’s dead in the water now.

“It was one that had been playing in our league but it was just a little bit too far for him to travel.

“The commitment was huge for him and we couldn’t quite get the right deal together that worked for him and for us as well.”
