A Seaton youngster has just been crowned as a world champion - with his sibling only narrowly missing out.

Brothers Elliot and Zinedine Hodgson travelled to Belgrade in Serbia to compete in the 13th World Karate Confederation World Championships for cadets, juniors and seniors.

The duo, representing Scotland, went up against representatives from 19 countries in a tough test of their skills.

Both competed really well with Zinedine, 12, winning gold in the 12-13-year-old category to be crowned world champion.

His brother Elliot, 14, just missed out on gold and finished as runner-up, winning silver in the 14-15-year-old category.

The siblings have been training at Hokushinko Martial Arts Centre in Workington under the guidance of Sensei Mark Hodgson, a 6th Dan, for over eight years now.

And their hard work is really paying off, after achieving 2nd Dan status with Mark at Hokushinko.

This was their toughest competition for Scotland to date and proud dad, Barry Hodgson, added: “The lads were thrilled to bits to come away with high ranking medals up against some tough competition.”
