Workington Town head coach Chris Thorman is still hoping to add more signings to his squad as he bids to prepare a team for the gruelling League 1 season.

The club have already re-signed a number of players from last season’s side, as well as adding Gabe Fell, Elliot Hall, Conor Fitzsimmons and Marcus O’Brien to bolster the ranks.

But Thorman admitted he is still looking to bring in more talent to ensure his group is capable of dealing with the rough and tumble of the campaign.

He said: “The squad’s coming together.

“We’re probably still after two players but I’m not going to rush into that.

“I’m having conversations with people and that will happen in due course.

“We’ve got a number of trialists at the minute who have contributed to the group.

“All of them are Cumbrian players, which is good, and it’s allowing us to do different stuff in training when we’ve got good numbers and consistently have 25, 26, 27 players.”

Meanwhile, Derwent Park is set to host matches for the Workington Reds Juniors open age and Workington Reds Ladies teams over the course of their seasons.

Town chairman Les Smallwood said: “As a club, we want to see all sport thrive in our town, and for Derwent Park to be used as a community asset, so we’re delighted that we’ll be able to host and enjoy some football this season.”
