Workington Town’s all-time record points scorer will have the chance to extend his tally next season after penning a new deal to stay with the club.

Carl Forber will be back at Derwent Park in 2020 and head coach Chris Thorman was happy to have the reliable points machine signed up for another campaign.

Thorman said: “Good quality half-backs are very hard to come by, that’s why it was imperative to retain the services of Carl.

“As well as having all the attributes a top half-back needs, he is easily one of the most coachable players in the squad.

“He is also one of the most selfless members of the squad as he understands the team is more important than the individual.

“His points record for Town speaks for itself and I look forward to coaching him again in 2020.”

The prolific scorer broke Iain MacCorquodale’s record of 1,800 points for Town after nearly 40 years last season and sits on a staggering 1,813 points racked up since his arrival at Derwent Park in 2007.

As an experienced head Forber has seen a lot in a Town shirt but he admitted he is still excited to be getting under way with the build-up to another season.

“I’m chuffed to get another year sorted doing something I love doing,” he added.

“I’m still feeling as fit as ever, really enjoying pre-season and so grateful for the opportunity for another year.

“All the boys are really having a good dig, giving 100 per cent in every session and that can only put us in good stead for what is going to be a tough season.

“We lost a couple of players from last year which we will no doubt miss but we have brought a few lads in to replace them and they’re all looking good in training so hopefully it will be a good year for us.”
