Workington Reds manager Danny Grainger insisted his in-form team will show struggling Ossett United the respect they deserve when they travel to Ingfield in search of three points tomorrow (3pm kick-off).

Ossett have struggled so far this season and are third-bottom of the NPL North West Division with 11 points, 17 less than Grainger’s table-topping Reds side who have won eight, drawn four and lost just two of their league games so far.

But the Workington boss will not be taking the West Yorkshire side lightly, regardless of their position, and believes they would be foolish to underestimate their hosts.

“When you’re sat at the top of the league table, you are there to be shot at and teams raise their game against you,” said

Grainger.

“We can build a bit of momentum now going into the second half of the season if we make sure we do the right things over the next few weeks.

“Ossett, when they are on it, have shown they can produce some good results and with a bit more consistency they could easily be higher up the table.

“The lads know they need to be on it this weekend.

“I had a conversation with the lads and said that in every competition that we are still in now, we are aiming to win it.

“I want to win them all and that’s the mentality we have to have.”

Ossett have recently changed manager, appointing former Bradford Park Avenue, Halifax Town and Frickley Athletic player Wayne Benn as the new man at the helm.

Benn is an experienced boss who has previously taken charge of Hemsworth and Goole.

Grainger hopes to have virtually a fully-fit squad at his disposal for tomorrow’s game, with Brad Carroll and Gari Rowntree having completed another step on their way back to full fitness by playing in the reserves’ game on Wednesday.

Reds are due to return to home action on Tuesday when they host Mossley in the Integro League Cup second round (7.45pm kick-off) after they beat Cumbrian rivals Kendal Town 6-1 in the previous round.
