The preliminary round of the Whitehaven Cup threw together two ties which had Premier Division teams hosting Division One teams.

Gosforth were comfortably fixed at half time, leading Northbank 2-0 with goals from Jack Denwood and Lewis Jolly, but Joe Boguszyski and Luke Miller restored parity in the second period.

The tie went the way of Gosforth when a strike from Robbie Bagley sealed the outcome.

Wigton Harriers hosted Maryport Athletic, with Harriers edging the result 2-1.

Ian Johnston and Sean Little scored for Wigton, with Ethan Weir responding for Maryport and ensuring the game went to the wire.

The other ties, Moor Row v Mirehouse and Carlisle City v Aspatria, were postponed.

In Division One league action, Newlaithes continued their quest for the championship with a 3-1 win over Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves.

A goal from Harry Thompson and brace from Luke Firth secured the points, with Amateurs battling away to reduce the arrears through Scott Underwood.

Workington Reds Juniors Black entertained UniSun, with the teams eventually sharing the points in a 2-2 draw after Calvin Feeney and Robbie Watson got on the scoresheet for Black as UniSun replied with goals from Jamie Clague and Tyran Farish.
