Whitehaven are still waiting to find out who they will face this weekend as they weigh up options over the rearrangement of their delayed Coral Challenge Cup tie with Dewsbury.

As The Whitehaven News went to press, three options were being considered – one of which would be for the fourth-round tie to replace their Championship fixture against Toulouse Olympique on Sunday.

Originally it looked as though March 8 would be the date for the tie, which was postponed on Sunday because the Recreation Ground pitch was deemed unplayable after persistent heavy rain.

But now it is just one of three options which the Rugby Football League have put to both clubs.

It would have meant their scheduled Championship game at Widnes would have been postponed, as would Dewsbury’s trip to Oldham.

Chairman Tom Todd said: “Option one is to play this Sunday instead of the Championship game with Toulouse.

“Now, from what we heard the French club were getting a bit twitchy about our game being possibly postponed through the weather again as they had made all their travel arrangements.

“Actually the forecast doesn’t appear too bad for the rest of the week, and Sunday’s game should be fine.

“The second option is for next Wednesday under lights – but that might not be favoured by Dewsbury, who already have a Championship game to rearrange in midweek.

“So it’s all still up in the air and we can’t inform our supporters just yet as to when we will play.

“I think of all the options we would prefer the Wednesday date but Dewsbury might prefer one of the Sunday options.

“The thing is if it’s decided to play on March 8, another postponement would mean us having to fit it in on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday or switch the tie to Dewsbury.”

The winners of Haven’s clash with Dewsbury will go to Newcastle Thunder in the fifth round on March 15.

The losers will collect £3,500.
