Continental import Storm Jorge was the main winner over the weekend when he successfully tackled five of the seven scheduled games into touch.

Divisional Cup games between Gosforth and Wigton, Moor Row and Mirehouse, Northbank and Carlisle City, and Aspatria and Cockermouth all fell under Jorge’s spell.

Aspatria and Cockermouth had moved to the all-weather pitch at Netherhall but the game was postponed for safety reasons due to debris blowing around the pitch.

The Division One fixture between Windscale Reserves and Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves was also cancelled despite trying to switch the fixture to Whitehaven’s 3G facility.

The long-awaited Cumberland Senior Cup quarter-final game involving the last surviving Smurfit Kappa Cumberland County League club, Workington Athletic, managed to beat the weather and they overcame Westmorland League outfit Kirkoswald 4-1to book a clash with NPL North West Division leaders Workington Reds in the semi-finals.

The game was played in very windy conditions with both teams endeavouring to play controlled football and it was the Workington-based side, playing with the gale at their backs, who forged ahead with three goals in the first 25 minutes but some resilient defending by Kirkoswald ensured there was no further scoring before the interval.

In the second period it was Kirkoswald grasping the initiative with the elements in their favour, reducing the arrears with 15 minutes left on the clock before Athletic sealed their progress to the semi-finals with a fourth goal five minutes from the end. Scorers for Workington Athletic were Greg Armstrong, Luke Mitchell and a brace from Connor Hammell.

In the reformatted divisional competitions, Newlaithes entertained Cleator Moor Celtic Reserveson Unisun's pitch to ensure the game went ahead.

It proved to be a shrewd move with Newlaithes taking the tie 4-1 as Luke Firth, Ben Atkinson, Andy Lewis and Callum Plunkett scored for Newlaithes and Celtic replied with a strike from Liam Johnson.
