Keswick ladies' firsts had an excellent 4-1 home win against South Lakes from Barrow.

The victory owed much to the work of the defence and in particular goalkeeper Heather Ingram but Keswick got off to a blistering start with Holly Milne scoring after two minutes at the back post which came from a shot by Amy Walker.

They kept the high tempo up and it was Walker who doubled their lead after four minutes from just inside the D.

South Lakes regrouped and came more into the game, setting up waves of attacks to win a series of short corners, all of which were repelled by the Keswick defence of Emma Harrison and Sarah Scott and diving saves from Ingram

Keswick created plenty of chances themselves as Kat Miller ran the midfield with some great runs.

Holly Milne and Hannah Rumney harried the South Lakes defence and it was Rumney who scored Keswick’s third on 28 minutes.

The visitors’ failure to convert their numerous short corner chances meant Keswick went in 3-0 ahead at half time.

The second half saw the visitors again pressing forward and winning short corner after short corner but, once more, Ingram and the Keswick defence were equal to the task.

Keswick were awarded a penalty stroke on 17 minutes and Harrison stepped up to slot the ball past Mawdsley in the South Lakes goal.

The visitors managed to get on the scoreboard with virtually the last shot of the game through Holly Nuttall.
