Workington Town chairman Les Smallwood has paid tribute to their former kitman who has died.
George Petre was chairman of the supporters’ club at Town for a number of years before going on to be kitman, a role he only retired from last year.
Mr Smallwood said that the club and all in it had lost a true friend.
He said: “It is with great sadness that we have learned that George Petre, lifelong fan, volunteer, club kitman but most of all our dear friend has passed away.
“George was Town through and through and has supported the club for nearly as long as we’ve existed.
“We’ll be forever grateful to him for his love, commitment and friendship.
“Rest in peace marra and our thoughts are with your lovely family.”
