A FOOTBALL made YouTube star has received behind the scenes access to a pre-season friendly between Penrith and Workington Reds.

Sam North of the Footy Adventures YouTube channel was given access to the Penrith vs Workington game staged on Saturday August 8 at Frenchfield Park.

It was the first game Sam had attended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under normal circumstances he would upload a video every week, providing the match-day experience in niche and lesser-known football clubs.

Sam, who is originally from Oxfordshire and has family in Cumbria, said: "I go to matches and show weird and wonderful football clubs through the fan's lens."

The Footy Adventures YouTube channel is currently sitting at around 4,500 views.

So far he has visited fifteen countries and completed eight stadium tours.

He added that the behind closed doors game at Penrith was a unique experience: "It was different but it was interesting. You're so close to the players and the manager, you get to hear what they're saying and get really close to the team.

"Sometimes when there's fans there you can get caught up in the singing.

"It was great to see and hopefully gives fans a glimpse at their local teams even though they themselves aren't yet allowed to access the ground."

He added that he is excited to see football back and the news that spectators will soon be admitted to non-league matches.

"I hadn't seen a game of football in five months, they're starting to open up again."
