Carlisle United boss Chris Beech says the Blues will get to the bottom of the latest injury which has ruled out key attacker Omari Patrick.

The frontman was back on the sidelines on Saturday with a fresh leg problem.

Ex-Bradford man Patrick missed United’s first games of the campaign with a hamstring issue and, after returning for the last two fixtures, was out again for the Scunthorpe game along with Gime Toure.

Beech said: “Gime tried on Thursday and Friday but he couldn’t quite make it. Omari is a little bit more down the line in terms of investigating what’s wrong.

“He’s seen a specialist [on Saturday] so we’ll know more after that. It’s his other leg. So we’ll get to the bottom of it.

“Gime got a dead leg last Saturday, he tried to run it off, he wasn’t right Tuesday, we gave him more time, he tried it [on Friday] and he can’t sprint, so at that point if you can’t sprint he can’t play the type of football that he wants to play.”

Beech conceded that both players were a miss but said United still had enough in their ranks to have got a result at Scunthorpe.

The Blues head coach said: “It’s a blow but if Ethan [Walker] scores we wouldn’t even be talking about them now. We’d have won, and we could have won even though we conceded.

“It’s hard [with key players missing] because you want continuity and you want rhythm. We’ve talked about that a lot because the lads have missed a lot of football, not just with injuries but because of the lockdown.

“It’s as tough for them as it is for us. That’s why you have a squad because, again, it’s just one of those things.

“Ethan had a good game, showed some good moments, and Lewis [Alessandra] was twisting and turning and he got his chances. Callum Guy’s deliveries were excellent, so you just deal with it all. This is football.”
