MARYPORT rugby star Brandon Moore has signed a new deal with Halifax Panthers.

The hooker has put pen to paper on a two year deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022 season.

Moore has also been handed the club captaincy, replacing Scott Murrell.

The 24-year-old Allerdale native is entering his sixth season with Halifax after joining the club from Castleford Tigers back in 2015.

Moore said it was an easy decision to sign the new deal.

"I've enjoyed my last few seasons here," he said. "Obviously brought quite a bit in, and there;s been a big change to the squad.

"We're losing the likes Tyrer and Muzza [Scott Murrell]who have been of the team and the success over the last few years, and it's going through a bit of a change.

"I reckon the talent we've brought in, adding to what we've already got, is a good mix."

Moore spent time on loan with local rivals Huddersfield Giants in 2020 making four appearances in the Betfred Super League.

He continued: "It came out of the blue last year, that I was going to be getting the opportunity to go there and play.

"I hadn't really played for seven months or so, and I went not expecting a lot. I got in the team and just had a dig and ended up really enjoyed my time there."
