A LEAGUE One football ace from Cumbria was sought after in the latest transfer window.

Kyle Dempsey of Maryport is currently playing in League One for Gillingham and making a name for himself amongst the English Football League ranks.

However, Nottingham Forest had offers on the table for Dempsey in the recent transfer window, Forest were one of multiple Championship clubs looking to sign the talented midfielder.

Dempsey ultimately stayed despite the interest as Gillingham fought to keep their captain.

And Dempsey proved to Gillingham manager Steve Evans that is was the right move when he scored the winning goal in their 3-2 victory over Charlton on Saturday.

Had Dempsey moved to Nottingham Forest, he would have joined another Maryport man Glenn Murray.

Murray made the move on transfer deadline day from Watford where he was on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Since the transfer, he has fulfilled hopes that he will add to the squad’s bite, scoring two goals in their clash against Wycombe Wanderers.
