A SUCCESSFUL young racing star is making moves in the British Karting Championships after success on the Cumbrian scene.

After competing in the Cumbria Kart Racing Club Championship at Rowrah, Levi Earl, 13, of Workington has made the move to the British Karting Championship.

The Workington teenager will race in his first British Championship later this month with the Vision Motorsport Team.

Earl most recently travelled to Clay Pigeon Kart Club in Dorchester for the Wessex Challenge which took place last weekend as he gears up for the championship.

The race series had mixed results due to difficult track conditions.

Proud mum Rachael said: “In the pre-final he finished twenty-fifth to start at 25 (in the final) that’s where he came back through the ranks from twenty-fifth and finished in second.

“He’s surpassed every expectation we had, he’s racing with a team this year, he’s with Vision - they’re absolutely over the moon with him for the results he’s getting.”

The racing prodigy’s dad Steven is pleased with his competitive spirit.

“He started off at Rowrah just practicing and we started doing club meeting as he started getting more competitive we went to other races.”

It was Earl’s decision to take part in the British championship.

The youngster is inspired by the racing stars in the national limelight including Lewis Hamilton and Cumbria’s Johnny Edgar.

“We know the Edgars from being up there at Rowrah. He raced up there with Johnny and Jessica. Johnny is a local lad and he’s gone into F4, not many Cumbrians go that far.”

The family would like to thank Vision Motorsport, HRS race engines owner Nigel Horner as well as their sponsors, Jemcare, Walshie’s Butchers and Dumail Motor Services.
