An 11-year-old Cumbrian is aiming to become the next Lando Norris as he continues to thrive in the world of racing.

Dylan Slack, who lives in Hensingham, is currently in second place in the Independent Privateers Karting Championship (IPKC), which seems him take part in go-karting across the UK.

After a stellar start to his racing career, Dylan and his family are now looking to attract sponsorship ahead of a Winter series with three rounds in November, January and February at Rowrah, where the youngster races regularly, as well as Lincolnshire and Wales.

Having fostered a love of racing through video games such as Gran Turismo and watching Formula One, Dylan is emerging as one of Cumbria's next big racing talents

Dylan's mum Claire said: "Dylan's always been into computer gaming and his love for racing started by playing F1 and Gran Turismo on his computer with his gaming chair and steering wheel. We've always loved watching F1 on the TV too so he's watched racing since he was very young, Lando Norris is his idol."

The 11-year-old quickly started some rental indoor go-karting once a month and soon wanted his own helmet, suit and boots, and even his own kart.

Claire added: "The staff at the indoor karting track commented on how good Dylan was and suggested we looked at getting him his own kart, unfortunately doing this was expensive so we had to save up for a while. Finally, in March 2023 Dylan got his own kart! We concentrated on small, local tracks for 2023 but then in 2024 decided to sign up to the IPKC."

The IPKC is designed to allow independent drivers and families to race in championships without the presence of big racing teams, helping to make karting more affordable for privateer drivers. During this championship he has raced at Rowrah, Lincolnshire, Barnsley and Ellesmere Port with rounds in Dorset and Wales still to go.

Dylan is sitting second in that championship at the time of writing, just one point behind first place.
