Aspatria are looking for ways and means of developing Bower Park as a community hub for the town.

It’s all part of the need, and the desire, to be more than just a rugby club.

Consequently a club development evening is being held at Bower Park on Tuesday in the form of an open forum.

Club official Barney Clegg said: “Our agenda will include a short presentation of issues facing our club.

“This will be followed by an open discussion on how we would like to move forward and ensure the continued viability of Bower Park as an essential element of our community.

“It is 141 years since we were formed and more than 40 since Bower Park became our home. We want to ensure that we continue for at least another 140. To do this we must move with the times, continue to maintain, update and improve our facilities and ensure we have the requisite people with the skills to undertake this task.

“Our desire is to be at the centre of the community and to ensure our people and facilities are customer friendly. We want to be more than just a Rugby Club.”

Tomorrow Aspatria face a big game in North Lancs Cumbria when they host Oldham, who are currently second top.

The Black Reds are sixth and six points behind the leaders Fleetwood who have won all four games – and against Cumbrian opposition.

Wigton are the latest to go up against the 100 per cent leaders but travel in good heart themselves after a 32-27 win at Trafford last week.

Down at the bottom Workington are still looking for their first points, but will be encouraged by last week’s effort against De La Salle.

After conceding 55 and 94 points in recent weeks, there were fears that another drubbing was on the cards but they shaped much better in the 22-14 home defeat.

Andrew Bowe again rolled back the years and Chris Boyd was alert and efficient throughout the 80 minutes - a performance that rightly earned him being named man of the match.

After the dark tunnel of previous weeks, the shining light of a maiden victory is within the Zebras' sights and confidence should be high ahead of Littleborough's visit to The Ellis tomorrow.

Up in North One West St. Benedict’s coach Steven Wood played last week and turned the clock back in a master-class performance which led his side to a 25-7 home win against a strong Warrington side.

Saints have an interesting game tomorrow when they travel to Burnage who are sixth, a point and two places below the west Cumbrians.
