WORKINGTON Academy has awarded newly crowned 'world champion' cheerleader Aimee Barnes-Wilson with a special Headteacher’s Recognition Award.

On Friday, May 14, Mr Bedford presented the award as he met with Aimee in Year 8 on her return to school from being at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida, with her Team 'Cheer Force Knights', based in Maryport.

Aimee and her team were crowned World Champions at The Summit and Allstar World International Cher Competition, held in Orlando, Florida and beat 87 other teams to become Cheerleading World Champions!

Mr Bedford commented, “We are so proud of Aimee and her team. It is a real honour for us to have a world champion at Workington Academy.

"Aimee is so dedicated to her cheerleading and is also a fantastic student here at the academy."

"Aimee is a brilliant ambassador for the academy and she demonstrates our three Rs - respect, responsibility and resilience - in everything that she does.

"We know that Aimee has lots of potential and that she is going to go on to great things as she moves upwards through the academy, both in her sport and also, personally and academically.”

Well done Aimee!
