It's a brand new house in all respects with only the roof and brick walls remaining of the original home - everything else has been replaced or renewed.

So says the owner of this extended semi-detached property which is now finished to a high specification and in a popular area of Whitehaven.

"We've been here for six years and were attracted to the house by the style of it - it's getting on for 75 years old and has the solid build and attractive features of that period, including the lovely bay windows."

The house, for sale with the benefit of no onward chain, is full of style with a large dining lounge, contemporary kitchen, three bedrooms and a stunning family bathroom.

Oak flooring adds cohesion to the ground floor, flowing beautifully from room to room from the entrance hall which has an understairs storage and traditional staircase with half-panelled wall.

The lounge is a very attractive room where the bay window and flooring are complemented by a multi-fuel stove on a tiled hearth with wooden mantle and decorative ceiling coving.

It is open to the dining area at the back of the house from where double doors lead to the impressive kitchen.

"We installed this new kitchen in a new extension/kitchen and it was just one of several projects to upgrade the house, " the owner said. "Other renovations carried out were new electrical work and a new plumbing system throughout, plastering and new joinery work right through.

"We also put in new double glazing windows and a new drive, in fact everything is brand new apart from the roof and brick!"

The kitchen has an array of wall and floor cabinets with complementary worktops and integrated fridge, freezer and dishwasher. A Rangemaster cooker sits in a tiled recess and the flooring is of smart tile-effect vinyl.

Double patio doors lead outside and another door opens to a utility area with more wall and floor units, plumbing for a washing machine and space for tumble dryer and freezer. Another door leads back into the entrance hall.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and one single which have also benefited from the owner's transformations.

The large front bedroom has a bay window with panelling below the sill - "We can see the sea from here, not much but still a view," he said - with the adjacent single currently used as a dressing room and boasting a huge mirror-fronted wardrobe.

The double bedroom at the back of the house has built-in wardrobes while the family bathroom is just marvellous with a freestanding bath and corner shower cubicle, tiled flooring and walls and a feature central light.

It typifies the high specification on offer throughout the house: "Once you walk into the property, the quality speaks for itself. Everything just works," said the owner, who shares his home with his wife.

"After all the hard work we've done, my favourite spot is the living room/dining area - it's very relaxing after a busy day at work."

He no doubt also chills out in the hot tub in the back garden where the low-maintenance plot features artificial grass - with flagstones beneath - mature borders and a raised decking area for al-fresco eating complemented by a barbecue area.

"We're conveniently situated for local amenities and the town centre and it has been great to be able to walk into Whitehaven," the owner said.

"We're going to miss that but we're moving to be closer to our family."
