The Browton Seven donated £1,000 to a national charity after raising £3,218 on their annual bike ride.

The team of 17, including six of the original gang who have been staging fundraising rides for 27 years, always raise money for the Great and Little Broughton's over-60s outing.

This time they also chose to give some money to Myeloma UK as David Barnes, of Little Broughton, has this illness.

They recently presented David with a cheque. The remainder of their money will go to the over-60s.

The team set off from The Sun Dial Inn in Little Broughton, and headed up the coast to Bowness-on-Solway, covering 36 miles on the first day and 34 the following day.

Everyone who sponsored them was asked to guess the fastest time on the first day, with the winner being given £50, donated by the village post office.

Mally Martin said: "We are so grateful to everyone for all the support we get, it's really fantastic."
