AN array of artwork will go under the hammer at Mitchells' Antique and Fine Art Sale next week.

The auction will take place on Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2 at the company's saleroom on Cockermouth's Station Road.

Works by artists Sheila Fell, Percy Kelly, Shani Rhys James, Melita Denaro and Tracey Emin and illustrator Quentin Blake are among the items on offer.

The most valuable artwork is expected to be Country Road with Horse and Cart by Sheila Fell, a 1968 oil painting which has an estimate of £7,000 to £10,000.

Other notable works include The White House by Percy Kelly which is expected to make £1,500 to £2,000, Flowers 2 by Shani Rhys James and Blue by Melita Denarowhich which both have an estimate of £1,000 to £1,500 and Vale of Keswick by Edward H Thompson which is expected to make between £400 and £600.

Artworks by Ebenezer A. Warmington, Harry Sutton Palmer, Len Roope, Derek Eland, Philip Jones (1933-2008), Catherine Holmes, Marie Scott, and Kitty North are also included as are books from the library of the late Mary Burkett of Isel Hall.

The two-day sale will also feature a wide selection of Christmas gifts and antique furniture.

Lots can also be viewed in person at the saleroom on Sunday, November 27 between 11am and 3pm, Monday, November 28 and Tuesday, November 29 between 10am and 5pm with late night viewing from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday, November 30 and throughout the sale.
