Alf Rumney’s St Helen’s Avenue garden in Flimby was flooded in December.
“It has taken some work, but I have got it back,” said Alf, 72, who won Maryport Town Council’s best medium garden competition.
Beth and Jim Tinkler, both 78, won the small garden category for their little hideaway in Meadow Way, Maryport.
Their secluded little piece of paradise attracts red squirrels and many birds, including a woodpecker. The garden became a lower priority earlier in the year, however, when the couple were presented with their first great-grandchildren – twins.
Harry Bennett’s Ewanrigg Road rose garden was spectacular as usual.
He still suffers the effects of a workplace accident but spends time gardening and won the large garden category.
Jean and Peter Rushworth, of Ryehill Road, won the container competition.
Jean, 71, is the gardener in the family.
But she admitted: “I get Peter to do the heavy work!”
