Police are investigating after yobs broke into the county council highways depot at Lillyhall and caused £6,000-worth of damage.
The depot was broken into over the weekend and three highways vehicles were damaged.
A council spokesman said: "This is hugely disruptive to Cumbria Highways – we need all of our fleet in operation to ensure we are working at full capacity across all of the various projects the highways team are working on, and to respond to new call-outs.
"The Cumbria highways team works incredibly hard in challenging circumstances, and the result of this break-in means the people of Cumbria are now short of two vehicles used to maintain the safety of Cumbria’s roads network."
Cumbria County Council is working with the police to support their investigation.
If anyone has information which may help identify those responsible, please contact Cumbria police on 101.
