A celebration of arts will be held at Workington Academy on Wednesday.

The school’s first summer arts show will feature pupils’ work and a performance by youngsters.

A selection of pieces from year 13 students Heather Taylor, Malissa Surtees and Kate Kneen will then be displayed at the Theatre by the Lake during the summer.

Their work was selected by Cumbria Decorative and Fine Arts Society for the exhibition.

Allison Murphy, curriculum leader for expressive arts, hopes to make the exhibition a regular fixture and also develop further links with the theatre.

She said: “It’s really high-quality work and they worked so hard all year to put it together.

“They managed to settle in well here and work with the space they had and they all ach-ieved the grades they wanted.

“It’s really nice that it’s on show and appreciated in school, but the fact that it’s out of school is brilliant for the students.”

The three students will study art subjects at university.

The art will be displayed between 5pm and 6pm and performances start at 6pm.
