The festival, which started today at the Marchon Club in Whitehaven, runs until Saturday with morning (9.30am), afternoon (2.30pm) and evening (7pm) sessions.
Its chairman, Chris Hunter, said the festival was struggling a few years ago and organisers thought they might have to call time on the event. But this year, he said, every single category is booked up and there are new categories too.
He said: “We added the X Factor-style competition a few years ago and this year it has over 50 entrants. This year we will have a solo drum playing category and an adult Disney song category.
“The youngsters were enjoying it so much that I think the adults wanted to have a go too. It’s absolutely full-up now. In previous years we’ve had breaks in some mornings and afternoons because there wasn’t a big take-up of some categories – but not this year.”
Tickets are available on the door and cost £1.50 for adults, £1 for pensioners during the morning and afternoon sessions. For the evening sessions, tickets are £3 for adults and £2 concessions. Children get in free.
