A group of Cockermouth School pupils won the county final of a mock trials competition held at Kendal Magistrates Court.
The 17 year nine students will take part in the North East regional final in Newcastle Crown Court later this year.
The pupils had to take part in a mock court case, playing the parts of all the different people involved.
Teacher Mat Richards said: "I'm very pleased for them, they worked hard and performed very well given that this is the first time any of them have been in the competition."
