Distington's former Woodlands Care Home could be demolished and redeveloped.
The 40-bed care home was sold at auction in Manchester in May last year with a guide price of £200,000 to £225,000.
The lot included the 2.26-acre site and two semi-detached bungalows.
North Associates has applied to Allerdale council to determine whether the authority's consent is required over the proposed development and any restoration of the site.
In a statement about the proposed demolition and site clearance, North Associates said: "In general, the proposal is to demolish the existing former care home buildings and associated outbuildings to ground level leaving the concrete floor slabs in a safe and secure condition, to provide a development platform for the proposed site redevelopment at a later date."
The home was closed by Cumbria County Council in 2012.
The care home was earmarked for closure in 2011 under a county council plan to modernise care services.
Richmond Park in Workington and Park Lodge in Aspatria were also threatened with closure but were saved after large scale community campaigns.
Calls for Woodlands to remain open failed.
